Lors de l’événement National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) à Las Vegas, Microsoft a présenté Silverlight (connu sous le nom de code WPF/e), un nouveau plug-in multi-navigateur et multi-plateformes (Mac/Windows) qui permet de diffuser une nouvelle génération d’applications riches et interactives (RIAs). Simple et léger à déployer, cette solution ouvre de nouveaux horizons avec une expérience utilisateur riche sur le Web, mixant diversités de média en particulier la vidéo et applications hautement interactives.
Silverligh est une nouvelle solution pour toutes les entreprises, en particulier dans le secteur des médias, désirant délivrer une expérience riche sur le web avec des contenus de haute qualité tout en contrôlant et minimisant les coûts de la diffusion. A noter également, Silverlight est compatible avec les millions d’heures de contenus existants au format Windows Media.
De nombreux partenaires dans les secteurs de la production et diffusion de contenu supportent déjà cette plateforme : Akamai, BBC, Brightcove, Eyeblaster, Limelight, Major League Baseball, Netflix, Skinkers, Sonic Solutions, SyncCast, Tarari, Telestream, Universal Music Group, and Verisign/Kontiki.
Sur le Web, la demande pour des applications proposant une expérience utilisateur riche et interactive explose, mais les coûts associés à la production et diffusion de ces applications doivent rester maîtrisés. C’est avec ce double objectif en tête que Microsoft propose une plateforme complète accompagnée d’outils appropriés qui favorisent la collaboration entre des développeurs et designers, facilitant ainsi la production de ces nouvelles expériences.
